So how many times have you been sitting in your stand hunting a certain animal, and another animal shows up?
So there we were, set up in a pop up blind in Comanche, TX. The weather was perfect for hunting and we were awaiting a trophy buck to show up. I was confident, and had my camera man, Devin Gibson (aka D Bunny), working the gear. We were on an evening hunt hoping to capture all the action on film. Not long after setting up, we saw something coming down the hill. All we could tell about the unknown animal was it was black, due to the thickness of all the cedar trees. I instructed D Bunny to get the camera ready because we had pigs coming in. Our motto here at Pure Instinct is the only good pig is harvested into tasty bacon. Anticipating a shot opportunity, I readied my Obsession bow, by that time we saw it was four turkeys making their way to us. They were four beautiful toms. All very good sized birds.
After discussing it with Devin, I decided if we get a good clean shot, that we would take one. As the birds made their way around the pond, I threw up my range finder. I turned the dial on my Truglo Range Rover site, and instructed Devin which turkey we were gonna take. I came to full draw and took aim. Released. Thwaaaack!!!! BBD (big bird down) I was very excited and wanted to get to the recovery asap as it was about to get dark. We climbed out of the blind, and went straight to where the Grand Trophy lay…what a beautiful bird.
A lot of times things in life don’t always work out the way we think they are going to. Don’t give up, and have faith that things are going to work the way they are supposed to. I never dreamed of shooting a turkey in TX! I had great fun with a good friend, and made more memories than I could have ever imagined. It’s about the hunt not the harvest. Memories last for the rest of our lives. This hunt will always have a special place in my heart.
