Turkey Hunting Tips
There are a few things to consider about your decoys and placement before turkey hunting this spring. Many hunters make the mistake of buying really nice decoys but ruin the set with improper setup and not looking natural to the birds. Proper turkey decoy setup is one of the most important elements of a successful spring turkey hunt. Decoys take the bird’s eyes off of you and bring them in close enough for an accurate shot when set up naturally.
A typical turkey decoy setup could include a jake and a hen with the male following behind the hen. The jake decoy should be closest to you because the gobbler will most likely come to him first. How close you put your turkey decoy is completely dependent on your weapon of choice. Place the decoys where you are confident shooting out to. When it comes to spring turkey hunting using decoys, the best setup is making it look natural to the gobblers you are trying to call into shooting range.
